Gachie

Tim and I went with a group of believers to a small community in Nairobi called Gachie (pronounced Gashiay) on Saturday.  We scheduled a prayer walk with the group after completing some community development training with Baptist Global Response (BGR).  Our group is made up of Vincent (pastor with Sema Leatherworks - http://www.semaleatherworks.com), several members of the missions team from Parklands Baptist, a co-worker, Tim and myself.

When we went to Gachie the first time, we felt as a group that we needed to continue going into the community, although we still do not know what that means.  We are seeking the Lord's guidance, and asking Him to reveal to us what we are supposed to do.

Yesterday was a wonderful day that began with worship in Vincent's house.  We were also joined by several members of Vincent's church.  Vincent quickly organized us into 2 groups and we divided the community.  Then we set off to prayer walk.

The Lord revealed so much to us as we walked.  He showed us: many different religions represented in the community; drug houses and drug users; many children without supervision; single mothers; the people's openness to us being in the community; and fear of those who oppress others.  Several in the group said they felt people were searching for something, maybe it is hope.  One of the biggest surprises for me was that one of the group mentioned the poverty in the community.  This was interesting to me because I see the same poverty all over Nairobi, but clearly the Lord revealed this issue to our Kenyan friend yesterday.

We believe that we need to continue working in Gachie and we ask you to join us in praying about what the Lord wants us to do.

After our debriefing at Vincent's home, his church group performed a couple of songs for us that they have written.  I posted one on facebook but this is part of the other one, it is about Zacchaeus...I can tell you it is a bit different than "Zacchaeus was a wee little man..."!  This group has written about 10 songs that they want to make into a CD and distribute around the community.  This group has a heart to share the gospel.
