Maralal Road Trip

Nicholas and I went on a road trip to northern Kenya to deliver some supplies. We were taking kits that are to be given to terminally ill Samburu people. These kits contained sheets and towels and other small items. It was also a great bonding time for Nicholas and I.  The Samburu people are tribal people who wear beads as a big part of their fashion. They wear beads on necklaces, bracelets, and rings. Even the men wear lots of beads. The route to where the kits were being delivered was an adventure. We traveled north for about 7 hours to where the road and civilization stops. Then we continued off-road for another 4 hours. We saw the real Africa during these 2 days. We were traveling in a big truck with a very stiff suspension. By the time we reached our destination, my back was hurting. We woke up the next morning and made our trek back home.

Along the way, we saw many Samburu people grazing their herds. We also saw lots of wildlife. We saw zebras, gazelles, antelopes, monkeys, baboons, elephants, a jackal, a green mamba, and camels. The landscape was amazing. Even though the trip was hard, it was well worth it. We saw a part of Africa that few people get to experience.

Here a few pictures from our trip.

Blessings,
Tim

  3. We lived and worked with the Samburu for several years. They are beautiful people and live in a great part of Kenya. I am glad you were able to make this trip.
