Grandma's Here!

Wow!  The past 2 weeks have flown by, it is hard to believe that we will be saying good-bye to Grandma Alice tomorrow.  We have enjoyed having her visit and she has been a huge encouragement to us!  We are so thankful that the timing worked for her to visit.  I am sure she has seen many things that she never imagined, especially crazy driving!

We were pretty busy over the past weeks, mostly with everyday life stuff.  Since it is Christmas time, Grandma got to join in several celebrations with us at school and work.  We did work in a couple of safari's that were wonderful.

Here are some of the things we got to see and do with Grandma...

Katherine got a SMILE award at school during chapel for being honest in the classroom.

Several of Katherine's classmates also received SMILE awards.

 Mrs. Hrvatic - Katherine's teacher

Grandma got to go to the kids swim party for the end of the season.

We went to visit Kitengela Glass Factory outside Nairobi

4th grade performing on their recorders at the Christmas concert.
Children performed "I Can Only Imagine" - it is such a joy to watch our children worship Jesus!

Grandma and Nathan at Diamond Plaza - the Indian shopping center near where we live.  Grandma loves Indian food and she treated us several times.

Our office hosted a Christmas celebration and everyone brought traditional Kenyan foods including:  green bananas (tastes like potatoes), chapatis (kinda like a tortilla), beef stew, nyama choma (roasted meat), mokimo/irio (mashed potatoes with veg), ugali (maize flour paste that is a staple food), kachumbari (similar to pico de gallo) and mandazi's (like a beignet).  We were asked to bring dessert so we took brownies and Christmas cookies, of course.

Rosslyn Academy flags...each students country is represented, there are over 40 flags with Brazil being added this year.

The following are Nairobi National Park pictures.  We saw so many animals, it was amazing!

We enjoyed our time with Grandma and are sad to see her go home.  We love all of the American treats and Christmas gifts she brought!  It has been a wonderful and special time and we hope she is better able to understand our day-to-day life here.
